Amelia Appel brings over a decade of experience to Triada as a literary agent after honing her skills through previous positions at Writers House and McIntosh & Otis. A Hamilton College graduate with a degree in English and a minor in Sociology, Amelia’s passion lies in discovering and championing diverse voices in the adult and YA spaces. Beyond her agenting work, you might find Amelia marathon training or chasing after her dog, always with a book by Tamora Pierce within reach.
Amelia is currently seeking adult fiction, non-fiction, and young adult projects.
She is looking for compelling adult literary fiction that features a distinctive voice and delves into intricate relationships, alongside engaging mysteries with clever whodunits (extra points for playful, confined settings), twisty thrillers that build suspense (avoiding cop protagonists), and upmarket women’s fiction where traditional marriage and family themes aren't the focus. She is also open to fresh perspectives in science fiction (no space operas), fantasy, magical realism, horror, and graphic novels. While she isn't the best fit for your typical romance, she is open to rom-coms, romantasy, and stories where the romance is an added element to the main plot as opposed to the driving force.
In adult nonfiction, she values projects that offer new insights in a captivating way, particularly in creative nonfiction, humor, sports, how-to guides, pop culture, and true crime. She is not currently looking for memoirs.
For young adult, she craves narratives that blend light and dark elements, focusing on protagonists who are driven to change. She's also excited to see smart rom-coms and stories highlighting growth in platonic relationships. Bonus points if there's a sport involved!
